True Story~

A longtime friend recently offered some suggestions about the Evolutionary Mystic Meditation experience.

I turned my body forward, relaxed deeply into my Center, and listened.

As she shared…

  • My tapping with the Voices was too fast.
  • My tapping with the voices was too long.
  • Was I trying to control her mind?
  • And I should end exactly on time.

I genuinely appreciate suggestions on improving “the mystical work;” and how I can improve my delivery of each experience. ”

I also imagined the emotion of disapproval coming with her suggestions.

The good news!

About 95% of me stayed Centered, breathing, and present.

And I could feel the stirrings of that Voice, in the spirit of fun, I love to call “People-Pleasing-Patty,” or Pat if you’re a guy like me…

A Bit About People Pleasing Patty~

The People Pleaser is terrified of criticism, loneliness, and being abandoned.

Body~ Sensation: Clenching in the pelvis, belly, or heart

Heart~ Emotion: Loneliness, Fear, Heartache

Mind~ Core Belief…Love is Conditional.

Will~ Behavior: I shave off parts of myself to please others so that I fit in and belong.

Spirit~ Core Wound…I MUST abandon, betray or abuse my own already Wounded Child to get the Love I crave.

The People Pleaser is a constant member of my Defense Team; that chorus of Voices that live in the basement of my unconscious. He lies in wait for the first sign of trouble, ever-ready to defend and protect the Wounded Selves within me.

Do you have a People Pleasing Patty?

More Good News!

In the past, at any sign of disapproval, People Pleaser Pat would have hijacked my whole body. And done everything he could to “shape right up,” smooth the waters, and staunch the flow of disapproval.

Anything and everything…especially abandoning true myself.

During this talk, however, I was able to stay Centered, peaceful, and present.

People Pleasing Pat…meet Buddhalicious!

For the small stirrings of People-Pleaser-Pat, I had several Soul-Powers to call on…Non-Attachment, Infinite Stillness, Fierce Compassion, or Eternal Love.

Grounded in my Center, I choose to call on a Voice, in the spirit of fun that I love to call Buddhalicious. He’s a member of my Soul Team.

Buddhalicious’ Soul-Power is the embodiment of Infinite Stillness.

Body~ Sensation: Relaxation and opening of the entire body

Heart~ Emotion: Exquisite Peace

Mind~ Core Belief…I am the Grand Paradox. I am Nothing <> I am ALL Things.

Will~ Behavior: I meet every experience with whole-body, whole-being Presence.

Spirit~ Soul-Power: I am the Infinite Stillness at the Center of ALL movement.

Now Centered in my Soul-Power, Infinite Stillness, I could sense the stirrings of my defensive response.

And I chose wisely.

Rather than let them intensify and hijack my Center, I met the energies driving People-Pleaser-Pat with Vast Spaciousness.

I skillfully surrendered those energies, emotions, and pain…leaving me 100% Centered in peace and presence.

A delicious sensation, for sure.


Two] Milestones in your Evolutionary Mystic journey~

Remember, your mystical journey is YOUR journey… Your journey may take a few months. Your journey may take a few years. Your journey may take a few lifetimes.

Your timing is perfect. Your pace is perfect.

Every mystic’s journey to their spiritual freedom also has a series of personal landmarks.

I’ve outlined Ten Mystic Milestones for the Evolutionary Mystic Journey. My story about People-Pleaser Pat meets Buddhalicious describes THREE of those promises and milestones.

Mystic Milestone #1: At will, choose to Sense, Center, and Shift into a Voice of your Soul Team. You tap your Soul Powers and respond from Eternal Love, Infinite Stillness, and Ecstatic Joy (even for a moment…or two).

Mystic Milestone #2: Notice when you are being hijacked; either covertly, subtly, or dramatically, by a Voice from your Defense Team…and that you are reacting from Fear.

Mystic Milestone #3: Surrender any Energy, Emotion, or Pain moving through your body to Infinite Stillness or Eternal Love.

Evolutionary Mystic Meditation: Surrender – The Second Stage of Enlightenment

Surrender & Submit is the 2nd Stage of the Five Stage of Enlightenment.*

Today let’s focus on Surrender…

Stage Two in The Enlightenment journey is how you develop your “Centered Self.”

One the one hand, Surrender is how you accept, honor, love, and celebrate everything that happens to you…moment by moment.

On the other hand, Surrender is developing the skills to presence the pain, emotions, frozen energies, personas, and identities that are trapped in your body…and keep you stuck in your head and 3-D reality.

Surrender is continually returning to your Center; a bit lighter and stronger each time. Surrender ALL that blocks you from shining your Mystical Child AND your Evolutionary Mystic.

The Beatles sang, “Let It Be.” Stephen Mitchell writes the 5,000 history of yoga can be distilled in to TWO words…”Let Go.” Ram Dass invites you to, “Be Here Now.” Eckhart Tolle explains the “The Power of Now.” Byron Katie advises you to “Love What Is.” Michael Singer shares his “Surrender Experiment.”

Every great mystic teacher invokes one essential path to The Divine, to enlightenment and freedom from the bondage of the Self. That simple, though rarely easy, path is to Surrender and Let Go. Surrender…who you believe yourself to be. Let Go of all your attachments, preferences, and demands of life. The toxic emotions, pain, and energy of the past…Let them ALL Go. The pleasures and pains of this precious moment…don’t seek them; don’t grasp them; and don’t avoid them…simply Surrender and Let Go; let them pass through you undisturbed. 

This 2nd Enlightening Stage is also how your spiritual studies, rituals, teachers, and practices can lead you to experiences of kensho, satori, or nirvana. These are temporary glimpses into your true nature. Like the shutter on a camera lens opens…and then closes.

Surrender is the letting go of everything with-in you that is not Divine Truth. All emotions stuffed in the body, negative thoughts, and beliefs, destructive choices; and energetic blocks.

Big Al’s Surrender Ritual~

Here’s a secret to Surrender and Letting Go.

  • Notice when you are hijacked by your Story vs. “Whole-Body, Whole-Being Presence”
  • Skillfully Center your Self…Sense & Center your Body; Center in your Infinite Heart; Center in your Eternally-Still Mind; and Center in your Blissful Soul.
  • Breathe with & breathe through these old energies.
  • Let go completely and thoroughly of all Energy, Pain or Emotions
  • that arise…ready for release.
  • If the release takes more than a couple of minutes; notice if you are back in your head; back in your story.
  • Or if the intensity feels “too much,” shift back into your Centered Self, and back off. The pain will be there when you are a bit stronger and ready to presence all that you can surrender.
  • Bonus Release: When you notice blame or judgement…ask yourself “What emotion am I resisting right now? What emotion is driving this blame and judgement?” and keep Sensing, Centering, and Surrendering.

Surrender…and meet every moment as your Evolutionary Mystic; your most Radiant, most Enlightened, most Embodied Self. Simple…yes and not always easy. That’s why we call it practice…over and over again.

Calm The Mind Chatter: The Golden Breath

The Golden Breath~

This simple, yet powerful breath helps you go deeper into stillness.

If you are feeling too anxious or energetic to meditate, then try The Valium Breath first to help you relax. Then come back to this Golden Breath.

Instructions for The Golden Breath. It’s very easy…

  1. Sit straight and sit still;
  2. Close your eyes or gaze softly towards the floor;
  3. Your hands rest comfortably in your lap (or in a meaningful position, like a mudra);
  4. Take belly breaths…
  5. Breath In naturally,
  6. Pause.
  7. Breath Out naturally,
  8. Pause.
  9. When you’re ready, begin to gently hold the Pause after your In Breath. Focus your attention to your heartbeat. Listen for five heartbeats and softly blow the air from your lungs. 
  10. Have one cycle of natural In Breath and Out Breath. 
  11. Repeat gently holding the Pause after your In Breath. Focus your attention to your heartbeat. Listen for five, ten, twenty heartbeats and then softly blow the air from your lungs. 
  12. Invite your whole awareness down into your heart and body. Gently dropping down from your head. 
  13. Have another cycle of natural, even In Breath and Out Breath. 
  14. After a number of cycles, allow your breath to find it’s natural rhythm.

Notice what you Sense and what you notice.

Calming The Mind Chatter: The Valium Breath

The Valium Breath~

This simple, yet powerful breath helps discharge excess and anxious energy from your body and mind.

It’s very easy…

  1. Sit straight and sit still;
  2. Close your eyes or gaze softly towards the floor;
  3. Your hands rest comfortably in your lap (or in a meaningful position, like a mudra);
  4. Take belly breaths…
  5. Breath In for a count of three,
  6. Pause.
  7. Breath Out for a count of six,
  8. Pause.
  9. Repeat for two, five, ten minutes…until you feel calm and relaxed throughout your body, heart, and mind.

Notice what you Sense and what you notice.

The focus on the out-breath activates your Para-Sympathetic Nervous System, which relaxes your body.

And calms your Sympathetic Nervous System, which excites your body.

(Two blocks south of Westheimer; East of Dunlavy; West of Montrose)
Parking is on Mulberry at Hawthorne. Entrance on Mulberry St. with a short cement staircase to the Fellowship Hall in the Basement.
For handicap and easier access, the back door facing the parking lot opens with elevator access to the basement level.
