Joel B. Nichols

Joel B. Nichols transcended early Sunday Morning, August 13, 2006. He was born September 28, 1955. All day Saturday he was surrounded by loving Mexican and American friends that supported him in letting go. The Cancer had taken over his pain center and he lay resting comfortably. Early Sunday morning, in his bed beside Rogers he had stopped breathing. Joel and Rogers Adams had retired early and moved from Houston to San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Joel retired at 48 and died at 50. Those that knew him knew he having the time of his life. He was living his Mexico dream with the love of his life. Joel died of a fast growing Cancer originating in the Duodenum. In March Joel noticed a bump on his right temple and it hurt some. In April he had an event that partially numbed the right side of his face. He self diagnosed it as Bell’s Palsy. In June he was rushed to surgery in Mexico City to remove a tumor from his head that was causing agonizing pain. It was the size of a hand. A PET/CT scan discovered 5 other cancers in the body which he was totally unaware of. After removing the tumor the Cancer became very active and within weeks it had attacked the brain and central nervous system. It was all too fast. Joel sobbed and said “Why now?” when he was told he was terminal. A memorial mass will be said in San Miguel on September 9th at noon, followed by a party – we all know how Joel liked to have a party.
